David, known by his friends and loved ones as "Dave," was born in Mineral Wells, Texas on April 16, 1959. He grew up in Ottawa, Canada and moved to Lake Mary, Florida with his family in 2001.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 25 years, Sinder (Surinder) Gill, and children, Amiet Chevrier Gill (35) and Sabrina Gill Kent (23). Dave's surviving extended family includes his mother, Sandra Matthews Kent; brother, Donald Kent (Barbara Calder-Kent); and sisters, Cynthia Koehler (Paul Koehler) and Kimberley Bermender (Daniel Bermender). Dave is preceded in death by his father, Lieutenant-Colonel John D.B. Kent, and was the eldest of his siblings.
Dave studied engineering at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and worked as a data architect for the Southwest Florida Water Management District prior to serving in his role at Optum, a UnitedHealthcare IT company. In the early 90s, he co-founded the first Internet service provider in Canada.
Dave was an avid reader, lover of music and world-class bridge player, having been named the youngest Life Master of Bridge at the age of 21. He was a pool shark and could often be found playing pool with his many friends at Cheers in Lake Mary. Dave was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs fan.
Dave was known as a witty, cheerful man amongst all who knew him. He loved his wife, son and daughter dearly. He is missed deeply.
A service will be held at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel on Wednesday, November 16 at 11:00am with a lunch reception to follow. The family will welcome guests to a public viewing prior to the service at 10:00am.
Dave was a lover of science and believed strongly in the expertise of the Mayo Clinic. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mayo Clinic.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford, Florida.
