Russell “Russ” D. Colton of Sandy Springs, GA passed away on August 13, 2018 at the age of 92. Russ was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Cora Colton and brother Doral Colton. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucile Colton, son Russell D. Colton, Jr. and his wife Claudia, son Charles E. Colton and his wife Jean, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Russ was born in Des Moines, IA and grew up on the family farm in Seymour, IA during the Great Depression. He operated the farm himself from 1943 to 1950 until entering the Army where he served in the Army Signal Corps for two years during the Korean War. After his service he returned to Iowa and earned a BS in Business from Drake University. During this time he met Lucile and they were married in September, 1954. After graduating he and Lucile moved to Atlanta, GA in January, 1956 where he began his career as a CPA. During this time he also earned a law degree from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in 1962. In 1964 he opened his own CPA and Law practice where he practiced accounting and law for over 30 years with Lucile working alongside him throughout this time.
Although he had an extraordinary dedication to his work and his clients, there was nothing more important to Russ than family. Vacation was usually a visit to family. He was active in PTA and Little League for many years and would always find time to attend games, meets and school events of his kids and grandkids. And he never turned down a request to watch his grandkids.
A Military Funeral Honors ceremony will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
