Roger Orvis Beebe, of Atlanta, passed away on October 24, 2011. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1939 to the late Raymond Orvis Beebe and Marie (Woods) Beebe. The family moved to Atlanta in 1945 where he attended North Fulton High School. Roger graduated from Davidson College in 1961. At Davidson, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and co-captain of the track team. He later attended Georgia State University Master’s Program in Actuarial Science. He received the designation Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) in 1971 and became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1975. In the late 1960s, he began working as an actuary for Life Insurance Company of Georgia/Security Life of Denver, which later became part of ING, and continued working there until he retired. A devoted family man, he enjoyed coaching his children’s soccer teams and spending time with his family. Roger was also an avid runner and ran numerous marathons, including the Boston Marathon while in his 40s. He loved animals and over the years rescued numerous golden retrievers, a German shepherd and a boxer. He also spent many hours volunteering at the MaxFund Shelter in Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kay Harvey Beebe; son, Bill Beebe (Jennifer); daughter, Jennifer Beebe Bertta (Andres); grandsons, William, Philip and James; sister, Rae Ellen Beebe Young; nephew, Britt Young, and niece, Maria Young Price. The service will be on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son – Arlington Chapel, and friends are welcome at 10:00 a.m. to visit with the family.
