Kay was born in Lansing Michigan on December 9, 1945, as the youngest of three siblings to Delbert Haeger and Dagmar Mikko Haeger. She graduated from Everett High School in 1964 and was married to Gale Wood in August of 1965.
Kay is survived by her two sons, Ron Wood (Stephanie) and Greg Wood (Chrissy); Ron's children Jordan and James; Greg's children Jonah, Bennett and Isla; brother Jack Haeger (Jean), sister Marilyn Cole (Marv), and innumerable nieces, nephews and further descendants.
Kay was a devoted mother who sacrificed a great deal, giving her sons numerous opportunities at becoming successful. Always torn by familial priorities present in both MI and GA, Kay managed to cover both admirably over the years. First, raised her two sons to maturity in Stone Mountain GA, while working fifteen years at John Deere in nearby Conyers. In 1996, returned to her hometown of Lansing to help care for her elderly mother, and work an additional fifteen years at Michigan State University. In 2015, finally retiring to Sandy Springs GA, with express intent on showering attention upon her grandchildren.
Though always concerned she could not sufficiently attend to the geographically distant families, Kay always seemed to "make it work" with her independent nature and determination, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to drive cross-country with frequency.
In retirement, she kept busy intently planning her attendance at frequent grandchildren's activities, keeping tabs on the ever-growing Haeger family she so dearly loved, caring for her beloved dog Quincy, and vacationing yearly with a cohort of high-school friends. She also enjoyed reading and a daily crossword puzzle. She will always be remembered and appreciated for her persistence at "giving just the right gifts".
Kay will be dearly missed, but forever loved, and may the cherished memories of her continue to warm the hearts of those she has left behind.
A private viewing for the immediate family is being held on Tuesday January 25.
