She was born Mary Katherine Linehan on November 24, 1917, in Montgomery, AL. to Joseph P. Linehan and Olive (“Ollie”) Hill Koester Linehan.
On May 3, 1938, she married John B. (“Jack”) Withers, Jr. Following his death in February 1963, she later
married Carver David Carley, Sr.
She is survived by her children Kathryn (“Kay”) Knox Withers Broadrick (Lawson), John B. Withers, III (Andrea), R. Dennis Withers (Bridget (“Bibbie”)) and Christopher Knox Withers (Nona), all of Atlanta. Additional survivors include her step sons C. David Carley, Jr. (Paddy) of Belleair, FL., Frederick Burke Carley of Homosassa,, FL., Thomas L. Carley and Stephen F. Carley (Nancy), both of Atlanta and an abundance of grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Katherine was for many years a daily communicant at the Cathedral of Christ the King. She educated her children there, at Marist School, the University of Georgia and the University of Notre Dame. Her descendants include seventeen graduates of Marist School. She was proud of her children’s educations, their marriages and each of her descendants.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King at 2699 Peachtree Road at 11:30 am on Saturday, January 24, 2015, with a reception in Kenny Hall following the mass. Her ashes will be interred later in a private family ceremony at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers the family requests that those so inclined consider a contribution to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, 760 Pollard Boulevard, S. W., Atlanta, GA. 30315.
