James Randolph Hicks, age 71, a long-time resident of Marietta, Georgia, passed suddenly yet peacefully at home on June 18, 2018. Born in Newport News, Virginia, on November 25, 1946, Randy was the son of Brigadier General Roger Lee Hicks, Jr. and Lucille Scott Hicks.
He graduated from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta in 1965, a proud member of the football, wrestling, and track teams. He served in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command as a Flight Crew Member/Crew Chief B-52 Bomber, completing a 4-year tour of active duty, followed by 2 years in the US Air Force Reserve. Randy recently retired from Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Hematology Division as Regional Sales Manager after 41 years with the company. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Preceded in death by his parents, Randy leaves his wife of 39 years, Marie Saggese Hicks; a son, Jason Hicks, of Los Angeles, California; a brother, Roger Lee Hicks, III, of Marietta, Georgia and his wife Donna; and two nieces, Emily Hicks of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Barbara Hicks of Marietta, Georgia. He also leaves several cousins and many friends and former colleagues.
A loving and devoted husband, proud father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Randy enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, water skiing, scuba diving, spear fishing, photography, hiking and mountain biking. He was a movie buff and had an affinity for aviation and juke boxes. He was a positive force, generous with his love, support and time, known for his great sense of humor, admired for his dedication and commitment, deeply loved by his family, and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, at 11:00 am at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at 4814 Paper Mill Road SE, Marietta, GA 30067, with Pastor Dave Helfrich officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Randy’s name to the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
