Helen Milner Johnson, 81, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 19th, surrounded by family at her home in Greensboro, GA. Helen was born in Aarhus, Denmark on May 4, 1943, to the late Otto Moller and Gudrun Kirkemo Milner.
Helen immigrated to the United States as a child with her mother and stepfather Harry Milner. She graduated from Bossier High School in Bossier City, LA, and went on to study at Louisiana State University. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at LSU graduating cum laude in 1965 with a degree in Mathematics and went on to enjoy a 30-year career with IBM.
While living in Baton Rouge, LA, Helen met and married David Earl Johnson (Dave) who brought with him a ready-made family of six children. Helen embraced them as her own and their mutual devotion was enduring. Dave and Helen moved to Roswell, GA in 1981 where they became devoted members of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. They enjoyed serving together through various ministries until Dave's passing in December 1994.
In 2006, Helen married William Lee Schwieger (Lee) and settled in Sandy Springs, GA. They cherished their years of traveling together, spending time with family and enjoying their weekly date nights at home. Lee passed away in August 2020.
Helen had a passion for creative pursuits including pottery and weaving. She delighted in creating works of art and forming connections with lifelong friends at Spruill Center for the Arts.
Helen was a cherished matriarch whose love and influence extended far beyond the immediate family. Her memory will continue to inspire us, as her legacy of love and dedication leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Helen is survived by her children Scott (Candy) Johnson, Bruce (Theresa) Johnson, Reed Johnson, Julie Johnson, Tim (Sarah) Johnson, Carol (Mark) Dusek, Brent Schwieger, grandchildren Paris (Hunter) Land, Jonathan (Chelsea) Johnson, Whitney (Ben) Payne, Bruce (Kaitlin) Johnson, Ashley (Anthony) Davis, Jillian (Rahul) Dasari, Jordan (Matthew) Harden, Jenna Doyle, Jackson Doyle, Cory (Emily) Johnson, Casey Johnson, Coleman Johnson, Sarah Dusek, Philip Dusek, Stephen Dusek, great-grandchildren Beckham Land, Ava Payne, Adeline Payne, Braelyn Johnson, Reese Johnson, Aiden Davis, Kahaan Dasari, Keirah Dasari and Olivia Johnson, her sister, Lisbeth Moller Hopper and brother Michael Milner.
Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Jill Johnson.
Helen will be honored at a Celebration of Life service Saturday, July 27 at 1:30pm at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church located at 805 Mount Vernon Hwy NW, Atlanta, GA. Donations in her name can be made to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.
