Ed was one of the greatest men I have ever known.  He had a gift that would make people walk through walls for whatever he decided needed to be done.  He also had the ability to make others believe that they were an important part of whatever was going on.  A true leader with compassion, something missing from most leaders today.

I am glad that I knew him.  Rest in peace Ed.  The world is a little worse off without you.

It was sad and encouraging  to attend Ed’s Memorial on Sunday and share in his memories.  I see that Ed instilled in his personal family what he instilled in his “Immucor” family.  I was hired by Ed in 1988 and am still employed at Immucor, during my interview decades ago,  he told me the best way to know what’s really  going on within the company, was to  hang out by the water cooler.  There he would chat with everyone, share what was happening within and how to make this company better.  He did just that, as he hired exceptional people to help guide them into a multimillion dollar company.  Yet, as his daughters mentioned, Ed was a kind generous man, giving to others and mentoring all of us to share what we were blessed with.  He taught his daughters that they could do anything, including joining the football team, nothing was impossible  Often what you learn at work, you bring home to your family.  I believe Ed helped me bring those same qualities home to my three daughters… we can move mountains when we had a CEO that believed in our company and each of us individually.  He made us feel like we were his most important person, as he juggled both his personal and company families. Heaven gained another angel this week – he will be missed!

Ed  was a fine gentlemen and wonderful man to work for. He used to give me a hard time because rather than call him Ed, I always referred  to him as Mr. Gallup. He and  Mr. Eatz  always treated me with dignity and respect and I held the same for them. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this most difficult time.

When we met the first time your friendly personality convinced me to leave Johnson&Johnson and joining Immucor to run the European operation. 
Then few years later you asked me if I would return to USA and be Immucor’s CEO, continuing what you had started. 
But you never left me alone. 
When I came to USA you made me feel home. Making me part of your family, sharing your friends, your vacation home, coming to lunch almost everyday with me, taking me to watch baseball and football. We even went to buy the same sport cars together. 
You didn’t give me just your friendship, you made me feel family. 
Thank you Ed.  I couldn’t be what I am today without you. 
Thank you Ed on behalf of all Immucor’s employees of yesterday and today. Without you nothing could have happened. 
The employees were your and my first priority. Their life and their families, what you cared most. 
I am sorry not be there, with your family, to say hi for the last time.

I was introduced to Ed in 2005 as I was looking to start a locally owned and operated community bank in Sandy Springs/Dunwoody GA. Ed, and I quickly developed a strong friendship both on a personal and professional level (s). Ed became an organizer and joined the board and was named our inaugural Chairman of Board. Over the years, he was an outstanding mentor to me and other bank personnel during an exceedingly difficult/historical time in Georgia banking. Ed's experience as President/CEO of Immucor, Inc. was immensely valuable with shareholder and board matters. He was well-respected by our employees and other board members alike. Those that know Ed, can appreciate his ability to connect with anyone. He knew every employee of the Bank by name and I recall numerously times he would enter our offices and to stop and talk to every employee.

His family meant the most to him and he cherished every moment with them. Whether it was attending their sporting activities or taking them to the Braves game. Ed loved the Braves and the Clemson Tigers. The last time I saw him, we were talking about the Braves playoff run in 2021. He was so excited and could not wait to watch the upcoming games.
