Edgar “Ed” Long passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on June 16, 2018. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Edna and Edgar C Long Sr. and grew up in Palmetto, GA. After a serving in the Navy during World War II, he graduated from Georgia Tech in 1948 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ed married Mary Hearn Long on Christmas Day 1948 and the two have remained happily married for 69 years. After a brief stint with J. A. Jones in Durham, North Carolina, he and Mary returned and lived in Atlanta while owning and running a successful construction company for over 30 years. He was a longstanding member of St. Johns United Methodist Church of Atlanta where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and was in the Bible Fellowship class. He also served as President of the Atlanta Chapter of the Sons of America Revolution and was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Ed was a loving husband and father and enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing and boating. He was preceded in death by son, Eugene Long. Surviving are Mary Long (loving wife), two sons Glen Long and Earl Long (Laurie) and two grandchildren Trisha Long and Katherine Long. The family will receive friends Monday, June 18, 2018 beginning at 1 o’clock with a funeral service at 2 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 with Dr. G. Gil Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
