It was Chris’s strong will, love of life, fighting spirit, and deep love for family and friends that carried him through the bitter fight until the very end.His pain has ended, and he was warmly and lovingly greeted by Oma and Opa Gantert, his father Charles Micallef, Aunt Cathy, and Uncle Rick.
He left behind scores of loved ones and friends who are forever changed by his loving, curmudgeonly, yet generous spirit, and his unrelenting passion for life.
Chris was born an ambitious, hard-working genius, teaching himself to walk at just eight months old. His brilliance, love of the outdoors and the natural world, and his endless fascination with anything he could take apart, tinker with, and make better were with him from the beginning to the very end of his life.
Chris’s innate combination of intelligence, fervor for life, and unparalleled work ethic wove itself through every chapter of his story. He was a feisty and talented wrestler and football player in high school. At the age of 19, his international spirit took him to Bitburg, Germany, where he conceptualized, co-developed, and ran Rosi’s Garage—a magnet for young U.S. airmen, French soldiers, and German football fans alike. Upon returning to the States, he opened and operated the premiere bike shop of Atlanta, APB (Atlanta Pro Bicycle), pouring his blood, sweat, and tears into it for over 25 years. Chris later joined The Friends School of Atlanta as their Director of Buildings and Grounds, and for the past 17 years, he single-handedly and quite literally kept the school physically running for the students, teachers, and staff.
Chris wove into the tapestry of his life a vast depth of knowledge, curiosity, strength, and expertise, along with a steadfast gift for bringing others together, creating an infinity of interconnectedness.
While his gruff exterior often took center stage, his gentle nature was treasured by those he held dearest. He had a fierce love for his family, which was core to his very being.
Christopher William Micallef is survived by his big-hearted son, Logan Kincaid; his loving mother, Mary Micallef; his brothers, Mark Micallef and Scott Micallef; his partner, Siobhán Way; Logan’s mom, Kelly Kincaid; Scott’s fiancée, Stephanie Tucker; his Aunt Terry, Aunt Barb, Aunt Steph, Aunt Laurie, Uncle Greg, Uncle Tom, Aunt Maggie, Aunt Theresa, Uncle Dennis, Godfather Uncle Glen Porter, and Aunt Linda; a loving army of cousins, second cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends spanning the globe—from California to Germany, APB, GBC, The Friends School of Atlanta, Osborne High School (class of 1983), and the loving Benteen Way neighborhood.
