She was born in Carroll County, Georgia on January 26, 1942 to Coyaban Menco Holcomb and Alice Frances Holcomb. She was an only child but often said she was an only child with two sisters as her cousins Dacy Shealy and Reba Jean Gillespie were like sisters to her.
She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1959 and West Georgia College in 1963. She taught at Bremen High and Headland High in East Point before joining Delta Air Lines in August of 1966. After marrying Perrin Stanford Stephens on July 23, 1961 they were active at First Christian Church Carrollton for several years. When they moved to Atlanta in 1965, they both joined East Point Christian Church and served faithfully for almost 40 years. Bivian retired from Delta in 2001 after 35 years of service. She was loyal, faithful, and strongly independent. She loved her children and especially her daughter-in-law Amy, adored her grandchildren, and was proud of her time she served at Delta.
Since retirement she has helped start two churches, Christian Church Buckhead and Tri-Cities Church. She served faithfully at the Community Assistance Center in Sandy Springs for the last six years. She and Perrin were Georgia Tech football season-ticket holders for the past 50 years and basketball season-ticket holders most of the last 35 years. She loved the Yellow Jackets and the Braves. But most of all she loved her Lord, His church, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 48 years, Perrin Stanford Stephens. She is survived by her two sons, Timothy Perrin and his wife Amy Susan, and Christopher Paul. She has eight grandchildren. Tim and Amy’s children are Grace Elizabeth, Andrew Perrin, Zachary Thomas, and Chloe Hope. Chris’s children are Christopher Paul, Jr., Allison Lynn, Maylee Annalynn, and Emmee Danielle.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, May 30th, from 6 PM – 9 PM at the Sandy Springs Chapel at 136 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA, 30328. The memorial service will take place Thursday, May 31st, at 10 am at Tri-Cities Church, 2619 Ben Hill Road, East Point, GA 30344.
