Richard Waldo Sprague, 87, Sandwich, MA died peacefully on the first day of spring, March 20, 2016. Dick was born on February 16, 1929 in Boston where he grew up. He graduated from Boston Technical High School, served in the Marine Corp and then obtained his electrician's license. He moved his young family to Stamford Connecticut where he started his electrical career. However, he had a great love for the Cape and after a few years, he was able to pursue his dream. He purchased a 3.5-acre lot of land on Town Neck in Sandwich where he built a home for his family. He started the Sprague Electric business and raised his family in this small Cape Cod town. Dick was a great story teller, a lover of nature and a gardener. He especially loved the ocean and the cold water of the Cape Cod Bay. He participated in New Years Day Polar Bear Plunges well into his 70s. He enjoyed both jazz and rock music and just loved to dance. He was a huge fan of Lou Colombo and followed his musical career for nearly 50 yrs. He was also a tremendously loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan. Dick worked tirelessly at his business, but once he retired, he developed a love for travel. He visited Australia, Costa Rica, Canada, the Galapagos, Greece, Hawaii and Arizona, to name a few places. But in the summer, you would always find him on his beloved Cape Cod. He was never very good at sitting still and even in his later years, he was always tinkering on a home improvement project. Dick was blessed with a loving family.
He is the son of Charles Sprague (deceased) and Margaret (McDougall) Sprague (deceased). He was also preceded in death by his longtime partner, Linda Bacon.
