Richard A. Crocker, of Forestdale, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday,September 10, 2021 at the age of 83. Richard was a proud, 12th generation Cape Codder, often referring to himself as a “swamp yankee.” He was predeceased by his parents Alvan and Elsie, and brother James. Richard graduated from the H.T.
Wing School in Sandwich in 1956 and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1960. He later sailed the world as a merchant marine engineer working for various shipping companies for 38 years. Richard and his brother together founded the Crocker Bros. Trucking Company in 1963. In 1964, he married the
love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Crosby Crocker, of Sagamore, Massachusetts, and they remained happily married for 57 years.
They built their home on Snake Pond in Forestdale where they raised their three beloved sons, Rick, Craig, and Matt. Richard leaves Pat, sister Constance Carr, his sons and their wives, Kathleen, Lori and Carrie, nine grandchildren who affectionately called him, “Bumpa”, Ben, Scott, Caroline, Mattie, Allie, Chase, Luke, Tommy, Brittany and her husband Dominick and their daughter Evelyn, his great granddaughter. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and a lifetime of dear friends. Richard enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, softball, horseshoes, Boston sports, and time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his huge smile and dry wit. Richard was a good, hard-working family man who lived life to its fullest. He will be greatly missed by many friends on Cape Cod, and Port Charlotte, Florida,
where he and Pat spent their winters.
Visiting hours will be held between 4:00p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16th at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home at 154 Route 6A in Sandwich, MA, with a graveside funeral service to be
held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17th at the Sandwich Town Cemetery at Route130 in Forestdale, MA. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Sandwich American Legion, 20 Main Street, Sandwich, MA 02563.
