Merilyn (Embroult) Myers, of Sandwich, daughter of the late John and Ethel Embroult, passed away on July 21, 2021 at Cape Heritage in Sandwich. Born and raised in Sandwich, Mrs. Myers graduated the Henry T. Wing School in 1950. She earned an Associate’s Degree in business from Northeastern University in 1988. With her former husband and the father of her children who served in the Air Force, she lived in many states as well as England and Germany. In 1969 she returned to her beloved Sandwich and worked for the Town of Sandwich for over 40 years, first as the office manager for the Health Department and lastly at the DPW, from which she retired. She was an active member and leader of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a former leader and member of the Junior Women’s Club, the BPW (Business & Professional Women’s} club, the Sandwich Health Association, and the Republican Town Committee. She worked as a Town Registrar, helping with voter registrations, elections and Town Meetings. In 2015 the Town of Sandwich honored her with a citation for her service to the community.
Mrs. Myers is survived by her children, Gloria E. Myers-Clark and her husband, Steven, of Winston-Salem, NC, Vivian I. Anders and her husband, Rick of Norwich, CT., Karen L. Alexander of Hendersonville, NC, Bryce Lee Myers, Jr., and his wife, Susan of Summerville, SC, and Marshall L. Myers of Columbus, Ohio. She was the loving grandmother of Timothy & Daniel Newman, Kimberly Healy, Rob, Jennifer, Michael, and Matthew Anders, Rebekah Flowers, Nicole Darsey, Paul Wilson Alexander, Jr., Kelsey Myers and Amanda Anderson, and the late Christopher Newman. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and her sister, Thelma Burke, of Sandwich.
A funeral service will be held in Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rt. 6A, Sandwich, on Wednesday, July 28 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am to the service. There will be catered celebration of life at the American Legion on 20 Main Street in Sandwich, following the service. Burial in North Harwich Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Merilyn to the Clark-Haddad American Legion Post 188, American Legion Auxiliary, 20 Main Street, Sandwich, MA 02563, attention Boys and Girls State Scholarship Fund.
