extended illness.
Born in Medford, MA on August 2, 1930, he was the son of the late James H. Watts Jr and
Hazel (Babcock) Kelly and step-son of Robert Kelly. He graduated from Annapolis High School
in 1948 and Suffolk University Law School in 1967. He was a disabled veteran and served in
the Navy from 1951 – 1955.
He and his wife, Nancy Carpenter Watts, spent their 34 years of marriage enjoying life in
Reading, MA, Boca Raton, FL and East Sandwich, MA. Besides his wife, he is survived by a
son, James H. Watts IV of Reading, MA and a daughter, Kelly A. Watts of Reading, MA. He
also leaves three brothers, Robert Kelly, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, Richard Kelly of East Greenwich, RI,
Richard Robbins of Orlando, FL, two sisters, Deena Watts of Dayton, OH and Kenna Holmes
of Lakeland, FL, his beloved, faithful, furry companion, Bradi, as well as two grandchildren,
several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim will be remembered as a beloved husband, patient and loving father and devoted brother,
uncle, friend and mentor. He loved reading, writing, genealogy, baking and telling a good joke.
And, those closest to him might describe him as a bit of a mischief maker.
He enjoyed a successful career in law, beginning as a clerk in the Middlesex County Court
system and then as a sole practitioner in his Reading, MA law practice until his retirement in
2000. He was a member of Anglican Church of the Resurrection, a sixty-five year Master
Mason of the Converse and DeWitt Clinton Lodges and past president and executive board
member of the Woburn Bar Association.
A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
