Gary L. Merrill

MERRILL, Gary L., 85, of Sandwich, MA, passed away on September 28, 2024. He was preceded in passing by the love of his life his wife, Wilma R. Merrill (Russell) of 60 years, she passed in April 2024. Gary was born in Boston, MA in 1938 to the late Gertrude E. Merrill (Edwards). He grew up in Brighton, Ma and graduated high school from The New Preparatory School in Cambridge, MA. He continued his studies at Boston University.

Gary started off his career as a sales agent for John Hancock Financial and later transitioned to sales in the automotive industry as a sales associate for Crandall-Hicks Co. in Wellesley, Ma. He spent almost 30 years with the company where he advanced to become President and CEO. Gary finished out his professional career as a consultant and small business owner.

In retirement, Gary lived in Florida, New Hampshire and eventually Cape Cod, where he moved to be closer to his grandchildren. Gary’s hobbies included antique cars (MG’s), boating, gardening, Nascar and all things New England sports, especially the Patriots. He also served over 60 years as a Freemason and as a member of the Shriners, part of the Aleppo Mounted Patrol. Gary’s greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished summer family vacations and spending the holidays and special occasions with his grandchildren. The grandkids were his pride and joy and gave him the grandest smile. He couldn’t wait for the next chance to see them.

Gary was predeceased also by his son, Christopher Merrill of Boston, MA, his daughter, Jennifer Merrill of Lynnfield, MA. They are now all together again. He is survived by his son Jonas Merrill of Hopkinton, MA, and his grandchildren; Taylor Tringali, Ava and Ben Merrill, Avery, Brooke and Chloe Merrill, daughter-in-law; Vicki Merrill. He is also preceded in passing by his and his wife’s best furry companion; Misty, who we all miss dearly.

A private burial service will be held at Southborough Rural Cemetery.
