John was the loving husband of 58 years to Teresa R. McDonough in Kentfield. He was the devoted father of five children, grandfather of four and great grandfather of one. He was predeceased by his wife, Teresa in 2008, his son Gerard in 1983 and son John in 1986. John is survived by his son Kevin and his daughter-in-law Marilyn, his daughter Maureen and son-in-law Bruce and his son Brendan. He is survived by his grandsons David and wife Molly, Matthew and wife Anne and great granddaughter Hailey, Daniel and Brian. In addition he is survived by his sister Kitty in Ireland. He emigrated from Ireland in 1947 and subsequently met his wife Teresa at night school in San Francisco. They were married at Old St. Mary's Church in San Francisco in 1950 and raised five children in the city.
He was a successful General Building Contractor for many years, working in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was a Carpenter's Union member for more than 60 years. He was a wonderful father and was a great mentor and example to his children.
They moved to Kentfield in 1973 and he retired in the early 1980's. In retirement, he was an avid fisherman and was well-known for his fishing prowess in all the local lakes. He also loved to plan and do construction projects around the house and for all the family.
John was a devout Catholic and attended daily Mass at St. Sebastian's in Kentfield.
John lived a very fulfilled and accomplished life and was loved by all who knew him. He had a keen intellect, ready wit and a great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16th from 5:00PM to 9:00PM with a rosary prayer service at 7:30PM at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E Street, San Rafael. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday February 17th at 12:00PM at St. Sebastian's church located at 373 Bon Air Road, Kentfield, CA with burial following at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.
