Victor Rodriguez, 77, died Friday in his home with his loving wife of 56 years, Stella, by his side.
He was born to the late Caterino, “Joe”, and Frances Rodriguez on August 13, 1935, in Salina, Kansas. Victor is survived by his wife, Stella; his children, Cecilia, Curtis (Carmen), Arlene, Chris (Nancy); grandchildren, Victor, Leslie, Arthur, Erin and Ryan. Victor was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cecilia, his brother Robert and his grandson, Bryan. He is survived by his brothers Salvador and Ralph, and his sisters Lupe and Connie.
Victor was employed with the City of San Jose for 27 years and retired at the age of 51. Upon retirement, he managed El Azteca, a Mexican food business which he co-founded with his parents in 1960, and in 1965, his bother Sal joined the business. In his leisure time, Victor enjoyed golfing, painting, travelling and spending time with his family.
Victor was an avid 49er fan with season tickets for 22 years. He was a passionate golfer scoring seven holes in one, winning several golf tournaments and served one year as president of his golf association, MAGA. In his younger years he was a drummer in his Father’s band, and ventured out on his own forming the “Teddy Rodriguez Orchestra”, specializing in Latin Jazz.
Most importantly he was a loving and devoted family man and a great friend to many. He will never be forgotten in the hearts of those who knew him.
The viewing is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose. The mass is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi, 5111 San Felipe Road, in San Jose. The burial service will be followed at Oak Hill Memorial Park. The reception will be at St. Francis Assisi immediately following the burial.
