Susie Sakamoto, age 91, passed away on March 13, 2018. She will be remembered for her artistic talents, love of dancing, and community involvement.
Born in Algona, Washington, Susie graduated from Tri-State High School (Tule Lake relocation camp) in 1945. After WWII, she went to Fresno to pick grapes and later moved to LA and worked as a nursemaid for a female producer of the radio show “A Date with Judy”. She later moved to the Morgan Hill area to rejoin her parents to raise strawberries. Susie married James Sakamoto and had two children. She attended San Jose City College and worked for Kanamoto & Nakahara law partners. She was active in the West Valley JACL and Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bridge, dancing, painting, flower arranging, sewing, and traveling. Some of her favorite trips included Japan, Spain, Alaska, Canada, Branson, and a 3-month RV trip across the U.S.
She is survived by son, Mark (Darci), daughter, Terri (Ken), grandchildren Matt, Kevin, Kyle, and Sean, great granddaughters Sophie & Jasmine, her brothers Henry and Harry, and sister Yvonne. Her generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Susie’s life on Sat. April 14 at 1 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 566 N. Fifth St., SJ.
