June 28, 1922 - January 18, 2020
Sibyl Lorraine (Bowden) Alford, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt, peacefully passed from this life on January 18, 2020, at the age of 97. She will be dearly missed. We take comfort in knowing that she felt “Blessed with a very good life”.
Sibyl was born on June 28, 1922 to Clyde and Elsie Bowden in Shady Oaks, Oklahoma. She had very fond memories of growing up with her four brothers; Leonard, Hardy, Leroy and Hubert, and her three sisters: Joyce, Pauline and Elaine. When she was 14, her family moved to California and settled in the San Jose Area.
Sibyl married the one true love of her life, Cal D. Alford, on July 8, 1939. They shared 61 wonderful years before Cal passed away in 2000. Her heart was broken, but she was strong for her family and she was excited to see her “Sweetheart Cal” again.
Sibyl was very proud of her association with the Rebekah Lodge of Campbell. She served in many capacities, including Grand Noble, volunteering at various events and supporting Cal in the Odd Fellows Lodge. She worked for a few years in a local hospital assisting the dietician, where she made life- long friendships. Sibyl was a very gifted artist and cherished the time she could spend in her “Art Studio” Cal build for her. She spent many happy hours painting the wooden birdhouses that Cal built in his adjoining workshop. They were truly soulmates.
Sibyl was very loved by her family. She raised two sons, the late Harvey Alford (Judi) and Robert “Bud” Alford (Pat) of Campbell, and one Granddaughter, Carrie Pesavento (Trace). She was the loving Grandmother to Deidra Redford (Jon), Chris Bono (Lou), Peggy Austin ( Kevin), and Mary Voron (Nick). She was the cherished Great-Grandmother to Tyler, Troy, Thomas, Hayden, Matthew, Justin, Jordyn, Wyatt, Nikolia and Michaela. She also had two Great-Great Grandchildren, Maddox and Lily.
The family would like to thank the staff at Merrill Gardens of Campbell who lovingly cared for Sibyl over the last four years. We appreciate all that you did for her. We would also like to thank Vitas Hospice, who helped to make her last days more comfortable.
We love you Grandma and will miss you always!
Services for Sibyl will be held on February 4, 2020 at The Chapel of Roses, Oak Hill Cemetery at 10:00am. A gravesite dedication will follow with a reception immediately after.
