Rudy is part of one of the first Mexican American Pioneer families to inhabit Coachella Valley. The four Arias brothers arrived in 1918 settling the family farm business in Thermal. CA. Gabriel Arias, Rudy’s father, established his family and built the family’s business, where Rudy grew up helping work the land. He attended John Kelley School in Thermal from 1950 through 1958. He moved on to graduate from Coachella Valley High School in 1962. As a scholar, he was avid athletic student and part of the student body throughout his school years.
In 1967 Rudy got a job in Tenneco and moved to Mexico City. This is where he met and married his wife of 52 years Susana. They were married on September 2, 1967. This is also when he perfected his Spanish. He later managed radio stations that took him and his family all over Mexico, California and Arizona. He finally settled his family in San Jose, Ca in 1984 where he would spend the next 36 years of his life. He then began a new career as a sales manager at Western Appliances where he worked for over 20 years prior to his retirement in 2012. Everyone at Western Appliances became a second family to him.
He is survived by his wife Susana, son Rudy Jr., daughters; Gabriella (Frank) and Susie. Grandchildren; Daniel, Mariena (David), Frankie, Adrianna, Sofia, and on her way Liliana. He was predeceased by his parents Gabriel and Mercedes, his brothers and sisters; Hector, Robert, Ruben, Alice, Lucy, and Celia. Survived by his brother Raul and sister Irene.
A celebration of life will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park. On Saturday February 1, 2020 at 10:00 AM.
