The white doves will bring peace and hope for all of us

We lost our dear Ba Ngoai but we will forever keep in our hearts our best memories with her when we came from France to visit her during summertime. We will always remember her kindness, her so-yummy cooking and her stories. We wish she has found peace and rest close to Ong Ngoai and Bac Hien.

The story of a fish turning into a dragon is depicted in the picture. By the legend, Vietnamese people are descendants of dragons (con rồng cháu tiên). Becoming a dragon is like returning home (sống gởi thác về). Grandma Cá Vàng is back home now.

When Grandma was Miss "Hoàng  Thị", she embodied all the gracious looks of a northern Vietnamese lady in the early 20th century.

The groom presented a cup of gin to his mother-in-law during the wedding ceremony, 1995. My children call her Grand Ma Cá Vàng, I sometimes called her  Grand  Ma"Hoàng Thị", which is the title of a famous Vietnamese  poem and song - "Ngày Xưa Hoàng Thị" as her name is Hoàng Thị Ngư.

This is the funeral announcement of our mother, grand mother,  great  grand mother in Vietnamese language and tradition.

My mother-in-law full name in Vietnamese is "Hoàng Thị Ngư", which literally means the golden fish. It is a folktale about a fish rises above its circumstances to become a dragon up above in the sky, spraying water down the earth to help it green and beautiful, to bring prosperity and happiness earth dwellers. My children affectionately and jokingly called her Grandma Cá Vàng and asked her to help California during drought years. As the story unfold, Grandma would bring happiness to whomever met her.

Now She is gone. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel at the tragic loss of her, our  Bà Ngoại Cá Vàng.
