Michael Christopher Formica passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2020, at the age of 54. Michael was born June 16, 1966, to Joseph and Mary Formica in Churchville, Pennsylvania. He attended Council Rock High School, Penn State University, and graduated with a B.A. in Business from San Jose State University after moving to the West Coast in 1986.
The youngest of seven children, Michael had a larger-than-life personality and seemingly nonstop energy. He saw humor in any situation and was rarely without a huge smile on his face. He was intensely creative and artistic and always had a project in the works, whether it be building his own outdoor sauna and koi pond, gardening, making jewelry, or bottling his own Formica Brothers wine with his brother Gary.
He had a deep passion for hockey, and played in both roller and ice hockey leagues for many years, often traveling to out-of-town tournaments. He formed lasting friendships with his hockey teammates.
Being on the beach or in the water brought him joy and he enjoyed many fishing trips to Florida and Mexico with his brothers, brothers-in-law and friends.
He loved taking trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City and was not a stranger to the blackjack or craps table. Playing Liar’s Dice at family gatherings was a favorite, and a dollar or two may have changed hands on occasion.
Michael worked for Cypress Corporation in the 1990’s and went on to form his own company, Advance Knowledge Associates, invested in real estate, and worked in home renovations.
He loved his family deeply. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Joey and is survived by his brothers Jeff (Angie), John (Julie), Gary (Kathy), and sisters Cindy (Bob) and Lisa (Ken). He adored his nieces and nephews: Melissa, Rachelle, Brittany, Kenny, Vanessa, Jeffrey, Camille, Ava and Lucas. He was the “crazy” and fun uncle that every family needs.
Michael will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Angela. Their recent trip to her native country of Hungary was a memorable one. He adored her children, Klaudia and Peter, and Michael and Angela’s home was often filled with lively conversation and laughter when their Hungarian friends gathered for dinners and holidays.
Michael’s spirit shone bright. Although he was taken too soon, it will never be extinguished. He will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date.
