Jason Lara, age 56, died at his home surrounded by his family on November 2, 2023. A native of San Jose, he was born on January 8, 1967. Jason was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and godfather. Jason was a follower of Christ, and lived his life demonstrating his faith in God.
Growing up Jason excelled in many sports, with soccer being his favorite. After high school, he traveled with the U19 boys soccer team, the San Jose Patriots, for a three-week goodwill tour of Australia and New Zealand - a first for a Northern California team. Soon after, Jason began his career working for the Department of Corrections, then became a Sheriff Deputy for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for 29 years. His career highlights include being part of the Emergency Response Team, participating in the Police Olympics, and retiring on his 50th birthday.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cycling, golfing, and listening to music. His greatest joy came from watching his daughters play basketball and soccer, and graduating from Santa Clara University. He also enjoyed good food, dancing, watching the Raider’s, playing chess, and tending to his yard.
While retired, he coached several sports for the Northern California Special Olympics Team, learned to play the guitar, practiced his swing at Boulder Ridge Golf Club, and vacationed abroad with family and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Hildalisa V. Lara and Joe S. Lara, and his brother Abel Lara. He was survived by his wife of 31 years, Jacqueline Lara, his daughters, Melanie and Noelle Lara, his siblings, Joey Lara, Hildalisa Lara, Angie (Mike) Ecdao and Jennifer (Jess) Cantu, and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
