I remember the first time I saw Evelyn.  she lived up the road from us and my brother really liked her.  What a joy she always was.  When we moved to California, she was Wilburn's wife and she must have been all of 17.  I was 10 and I thought she was so "cool" as we said in those days.  She and my brother were so very loving and a big part of our family.  After all, we moved to California because he had been drafted into the army and was going to fight overseas.  So, I have been with them through all their lives together even though I married my Air Force Man and moved away from the family many years ago.  I was at the airport when Evelyn and the children got on that huge plane and flew off to South America.  Wow, what an adventure.  She was so brave to go on that journey with 5 children to another part of the world.  I loved Evelyn, always visited her when I was back in California and I never ever forgot her and her wonderful family.  I hold all of you so dear to my heart.  We love and miss her but she had a wonderful life and a special family.  Keep the faith.

In those long ago years when we were just kids
and your hair was as black as a raven's wing,
when Saturday called we ran the long road

We stood on your porch and knocked on the door
â€œCan Dannie, Patty and Sue-Sue come out to play?â€
You stepped aside, your young ones whizzed by.
Dannie called, â€œSkipper!â€ and we whiled the summer day away.
 
You wiped the dishes, put all things a-right
baked and made good things to eat.

Evelyn, you were so beautiful and didn't know it;

I thank God for Evelyn's friendship. She was (IS) a woman of God and I praise Him that she is in His presence forevermore! She was blessed with a wonderful family that she loved, and she liked to share stories of their accomplishments. Evenly had a great sense of humor and was kind and thoughtful to me. I loved hearing from her via email after we moved out of state. I look forward to seeing you in Heaven, Evelyn!

The last day I spent with Mom was the day she was released from the hospital. There was the feeling that I may never have another picture taken with her. So I took out my camera and asked Cindy to take one of us together. I love you Mom, Pat

Grandma you were not only the toughest lady I ever knew, but one of the wisest and most loving at the same time. When I was hungry you gave me food, when I was thirsty you gave me drink. When I was young I ran the streets for days on end and got into trouble, yet you still took me in. As I got older and more mature I realized I was truly blessed to have you there. Because of you and my mother, I am who I am. Your grandson, Ian Vincent James.

Grandma (G-ma),
I will miss you very much. You were the glue that held our family together. You have touched so many lives and are remembered by those who love you. I wish I could be there to say goodbye. But, you know how much I love you.

Prayers are being said across the world for my mom. These will be done every Friday until Nov 18, 2011 and then once again on the anniversary of her passing. Please join in from where ever you are. 

A simple prayer that she had among her belongings:

"The light of God surrounds you. The love of God enfolds you. The power of God protects you. The presence of God watches over you. Wherever you are God is!"
