Christy E. dela Cruz was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 13, 2023, in San Jose, CA. She was 76 years old.
Christy’s journey began on October 5, 1946, in Manila, Philippines. She was born to George and Beatriz Ellsworth. As the eldest of 8 children, Christy developed her innate sense of nurturing and protectiveness. She lived in Laguna with her family and attended Union College of Laguna as well as University of Santo Tomas. She stayed in Laguna until she moved to Manila to pursue an interest for performing and entertaining. Christy worked as an actress and can be seen in such works as James Batman. She later became a disc jockey at DZTM broadcasting station, where she met her best friend and the love of her life, Delfin dela Cruz. Delfin was helplessly enamored by her beauty, charm, and kindness. Their relationship blossomed, and they were married on May 18, 1967. They began their family, raising their children in the Philippines and later in the states.
Christy went to the states to petition her husband and kids and soon went back home to the Philippines because Delfin missed her terribly. She and Delfin eventually relocated their family to California in 1981. They resided in San Jose, where she would live the rest of her life. Christy thrived as a cell director for IBM and was often compensated and regarded for developing ideas that would increase quality improvement. She then went on to flourish as a photo operator at Intel. After her retirement in 2008, Christy and Delfin would go on many adventures together. They went on several cruises taking them to different corners of the world such as Italy, Japan, and the Holy Land.
Christy had a generous heart, often taking in family to help and support them in times of need. Even in her last moments, she wanted to make sure others were taken care of - this will always be a testament to her kind and loving soul. She was funny, brave, witty, and always thinking of others before herself. She often lent a compassionate ear and guidance to anyone who needed it. She enjoyed playing bingo, computer games, cooking, telling jokes, and sharing stories about her life. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family. She was truly selfless and had a genuinely unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren more than anything in the world and found joy in the countless moments surrounded by those who cared for her deeply.
Christy is preceded in death by her parents George and Beatriz Ellsworth and brothers Danny and Alex. She is survived by her devoted husband Delfin, 5 doting children and their spouses: Troy & Mia, Emil & Jeanine, Dale & Jeanette, Binky & Steve, and Crystal & Daniel, 17 adoring grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her dear sisters Celia, Eva, Myrna, Daisy, and Grace.
Christy’s family will continue to honor her legacy by raising their children with the same love she so fiercely bestowed. There are no words to express just how much she will be missed by so many. We will hold you in our hearts until we can hold you again in heaven.
A rosary service for Christy will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA 95125. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
