She was a resident of Santa Clara County for 65 years. Originally from Oklahoma, Bette and her family moved to Los Angeles in 1935 and relocated to Mountain View, CA in 1936. Bette attended Mountain View High School. While working in Mountain View, she met and married her husband of 57 years, Elmer (Bud) Hallmark.
Throughout her life, Bette's first love was her family, which began with her family of origin then expanded into the family that she created with Bud. Married in 1948, they welcomed their first two children in 1950 and 1952. With her two toddlers, she voyaged to Guam to unite with her husband while he worked, and together, they returned to Mountain View with new twins! Their family continued to expand with two additional children.
Bette was a kind and loving person who made lasting friendships quickly and easily. She was a thoughtful, optimistic, and resilient woman who was quick witted and enjoyed laughing at life's ironies.
Bette created a home that was full of love, laughter, and stability. Her home was filled with decades of family holidays, celebrations, parties, and many of life's milestones. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Bette loved gardening and spent many hours in her garden. She also enjoyed nature and camping with her entire family.
Bette worked in the Moreland School District at Castro Middle School from 1977 to 1988 and was named California School Employee Association employee of the year in 1988. She was loved by the students and staff.
Bette is survived by her eldest sister, Eva, age 96.
Bette is survived by 5 of her 6 children: Kathleen, Ronald, Jim, Judy, Jeff (deceased),and Christy.
She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren: Ryan, Rhiannon, Lawrence, Chris, Joshua, Nathan, Lonnie, Shawna, and her 11 great-grandchildren.
Bette is preceded in death by her husband and son, her mother and father, two sisters and brother.
Services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Thursday, April 28 at 1:00pm.
