Antonio Reyes

Antonio Falcon Reyes (went by Tony or Toño) 10/02/1935 - 02/22/2022. (versión en español siguiente). Tony was born in the town of Santiago Papasquiaro in Durango, Mexico and was the 6th of 7 children born to his parents, Santiago and Lucrecia Reyes. Tony is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Lucero, and their 3 sons and daughter: Jorge Reyes, Manuel Reyes, Jaime Reyes & Emma Ramirez (Joseph), 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and his youngest sister, Lucita Cabrales.

Tony grew up being a hard worker as he had to help provide for his family from a very young age, he helped his father and 2 older brothers provide for his mom and sisters. Tony met his wife outside a local church, and as typical for the location and era, he wooed her with romantic serenades, they attended local dances and walked around the local plaza. After marrying, Tony decided that he needed to create more opportunity for his family, so when his eldest son was still a baby, Tony left his home in Mexico in 1962, to come to Northern California and work with his older brother as a construction laborer. Tony initially settled in Petaluma, California, but eventually settled with his family in San Jose, California with his wife and two oldest sons where they had another son, then daughter. Tony worked at a San Jose construction site for a senior country club community that is now known as The Villages, at which he worked at through retirement (Liuna Local 270). Tony was always a proud union man! Tony worked very hard, but he did enjoy his summer breaks with his wife and children, where they would take an annual road trip down to his childhood home to enjoy the annual festival and see family and friends. Tony enjoyed taking detours on the drive back home and would stop at many beautiful beaches on the western coast of Mexico and other sites in the Southwestern United States before returning home to California. Tony’s favorite hobbies included camping, hunting deer and fishing. Tony enjoyed hunting deer every October for his birthday, a passion he passed on to his three sons. Tony also loved fishing, especially trout; his last fishing trip was with his son-in-law, grandson-in-law, 3 grandsons and 1 great grandson--they didn’t catch anything, but had a great time! Tony was known for enjoying time with his friends, always striking up conversations with strangers at the store, and making new friends in his neighborhood. Tony’s gift of gab made him quite popular in his neighborhood and with his many friends--from his native home, and those made during his 60 years in California.

Tony lost his battle to residual effects of a stroke and subsequent vascular dementia after 39 months. His last days were spent with his family constantly at his side. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association or Stroke Awareness Foundation in honor of Antonio F. Toño creció siendo un gran trabajador ya que tuvo que ayudar a mantener a su familia desde muy joven, ayudó a su padre y a sus 2 hermanos mayores a mantener a su madre y hermanas. Toño conoció a su esposa afuera de una iglesia local y, como es típico en el lugar y la época, la cortejó con serenatas románticas, asistieron a bailes locales y caminaron por la plaza local. Después de casarse, Toño decidió que necesitaba crear más oportunidades para su familia, así que cuando su hijo mayor aún era un bebé, Toño dejó su hogar en México en 1962 para venir al norte de California a trabajar con su hermano mayor como obrero de la construcción. Inicialmente se instaló en Petaluma, California, pero finalmente se instaló con su esposa y dos hijos en San José, California donde después tuvieron otro hijo y luego una hija. Los pasatiempos favoritos de Toño incluían acampar, cazar venados y pescar. Tony disfrutó cazando venados cada mes de octubre para su cumpleaños, una pasión que transmitió a sus tres hijos. A Toño también le encantaba pescar, especialmente truchas; su último viaje de pesca fue con su yerno, nieto político, 3 nietos y 1 bisnieto. No pescaron nada, ¡pero se divirtieron mucho!

Toño era conocido por disfrutar el tiempo con sus amigos, siempre entablaba conversaciones con extraños en la tienda y hacía nuevos amigos en su vecindario. El don de la elocuencia de Toño lo hizo bastante popular en su vecindario y entre sus muchos amigos, tanto de su hogar natal como de los que hizo durante sus 60 años en California.

Toño perdió su batalla por los efectos residuales de un derrame cerebral y la subsiguiente demencia vascular, después de una batalla de 39 meses. Sus últimos días los pasó con su familia constantemente a su lado. Fue profundamente amado y su familia lo extrañará profundamente.
