Passed away peacefully on December 5, 2018 at Royal Oaks senior community in Bradbury. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry E. and Lute H. Wellman, and by her sister, Helen Wellman Daniels. Alice is survived by her nieces, Barbara Daniels and Dorothy Daniels Westernoff, and by a large extended family of cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews, and loving friends.
A Southern California native, Alice was born on April 14, 1924. She lived most of her life in Alhambra, where she was well known as manager of H. E. Wellman Jewelers on Main Street, and for her service on the city’s planning commission. She was a graduate of Alhambra High School and Occidental College. Prior to joining her family’s business, Alice had parts in a number of stage plays, motion pictures and television shows. The photograph accompanying this notice is of Alice in costume for the roll of Miss Ronberry in “Corn is Green,” a 1950 production of the Players’ Ring Theater in West Hollywood.
A viewing will take place, with family members in attendance, from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11th at Pierce Brothers Turner & Stevens Mortuary, 1136 E. Las Tunas Drive, San Gabriel. Graveside rites will be held at 11:00 am on the following morning at San Gabriel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Alice’s memory to any charity, but perhaps recognizing Alice’s dedication to the care for animals.
