Judy was born on February 21, 1951 in Fairfield, California were she was raised by her parents Donald and Florence Robertson. She graduated from Armijo High School in 1969, and went on to earn a B.S. in Energy Conservation from UC Berkeley. She pursued a career in Energy Conservation with PG&E in California, and eventually moved to Long Island where she worked for NationalGrid until she retired in 2011. She was unique in that she was able to form a special bond with her colleagues which kept everyone working well together.
Judy met her husband, Ruben Torres, while living in Sacramento, CA, and in 1987 they were married. Later that year they welcomed their daughter, Melissa. The following year they moved to Rockville Centre, Long Island and on New Year’s Day 1990 their son Michael was born. Judy took great care in raising her children, and she had a boundless love for her family.
After 22 years on the East Coast Judy returned to her home-city of San Francisco – she was always a California Girl. Judy truly enjoyed her retired life back on the West Coast. She enjoyed biking with her ‘Gals with Gears’ group, outings and book club with the Boomer Babes, ceramics, and much more. She was also recognized for her work with the Alzheimer’s Association and local food bank centers.
Judy and Ruben have a remarkable romantic bond. For decades they would power walk together every morning, and they loved traveling both for family visits and to see new sights around the world. At home, she was an especially talented cook and loved trying new recipes.
Judy Torres was extraordinarily kind and a light to those around her. She will be sorely missed and we are all better for having her in our lives.
A memorial service for Judy will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sanfranciscocolumbarium.com for the Torres family.
