Esther W. Lee passed away unexpectedly on May 27th, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Wilbur G. Lee, who died just seven months ago. Esther leaves behind daughter Lorrie Lee Rey and son-in-law James Rey, daughter Jackie Lee, son Glenn Lee, grandsons Spenser and Parker Rey, and her sister, Anna Y. Wong. She will also be missed by The Lee Family.
Esther was born in San Francisco. She attended Commodore Stockton Elementary School, Francisco Junior High, Commerce High School, Polytechnic High School, and the University of California at Berkeley. She also attended Chinese Central High School. She worked at "Emporium" and at "Sears" in SF.
It was at CAL that Esther and Wilbur met. They fell in love, married in June of 1959, and raised three children in San Francisco, after extended stays in Baltimore, Maryland and the Panama Canal Zone for Wilbur's government job and teaching position. Esther managed the family's apartment building in the Cow Hollow District of San Francisco, before the family moved to their new home in Tiburon in Marin County.
Esther enjoyed reading, spending time in her garden, and spoiling her two Samoyeds. She traveled the world and went on numerous cruises with Wilbur. She still cooked big dinners for her family, and we will greatly miss her apple pie at Thanksgiving, and her pork neck bone soup at Christmas.
Esther is now reunited with her husband, her parents, her two sisters, Betty and Doris Wong, her brother, George, and her dogs, Katya and Kiwi in Heaven. We know Mom will be with us in spirit, especially when Spenser graduates from high school, and Parker graduates from middle school next week.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Halsted N. Gray-Carew & English, 1123 Sutter Street, San Francisco, California 94109. Interment, Chinese Six Company Cemetery, Daly City, California.
