Allen Chapman Fuller, aged 83years, passed away peacefully after a long illness, at home in San Francisco, August 9, 2014, in the company of his loving husband of 52 years, Ronald Wesley Mayer. He was born September 27, 1930, in Columbus, Ga. He has two surviving siblings, Nina Jane Saint and Ellen Patricia Goodman and many nephews and nieces. Allen graduated from Phenix City Alabama Central High school in 1949. He served in the US. Army during 1954-1956. He attended Auburn University, majoring in Music and English, and received a BA and MA degree. He was a classical pianist and studied with a student of Claudio Arrau. He was a high school music teacher for 37 years, first at Harris County High School in Georgia, where he won numerous awards for the school, and then after moving to San Francisco in 1963 he taught at South San Francisco High School until 1995, when he retired,. He then became Organist and Choir Director for the Unitarian Church in San Mateo, 1996-2008. Allen had leading roles with his beautiful baritone voice in The Lamplighters, San Francisco State University opera, and was soloist at the Unitarian Church of San Francisco and the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. Allen still played the organ and piano during his illness and practiced Beethoven and other composers daily. Per Allen's request, no services were held.
