Dear Liz,

I worked for Al in 1983-84 when he was  the Chief of Medial Ethics at  UCSF when we had an office over on 3rd Ave.  I was a guest at your home for a wonderful weekly philosophy seminar with other UCSF members and met you at that time.

I then graduated with my MD from UCSF in 1989 and did my psychiatry residency at Stanford and have been in private practice in Menlo Park for 25 years.  I have such fond memories of Al, who was one of my first mentors in medicine.  I was lucky enough to have been connected with him via our mutual friend Linda Clever, MD.  Al taught me to think deeply and ask incisive questions and always keep compassion and respect paramount in working with patients.

I am delighted to hear that you all have had so many years to share happy memories together!  My heart goes out to you for your loss of  his daily companionship.  He was an amazing man!

I  would love to attend any memorial service that might be planned in  his honor, though I  realize the number of guests may have to be limited given Covid.
