It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Zelinda Martinez on July 8, 2024 at the age of 81. A woman of extraordinary strength, intelligence, and resourcefulness, she brought joy and laughter to everyone around her with her sharp wit and personable nature. Born on April 29, 1943 in Cabanatuan City, Philippines, Zelinda lived a life full of love, humor, and adventure. She was known as Ditse to her brothers and sisters, and extended family.
She worked hard from a young age starting as a school teacher in the Philippines and dedicated over 30 years of her life as a civil servant for the federal government. She took immense pride in her work and was held in the highest regard by her colleagues. But the success of which she was most proud of was her family. She met the love of her life, her husband, Rogelio, in 1970. Married for 54 wonderful years, together they nurtured a close-knit family, raising two daughters, Redna and Ralna, who deeply loved their mother. Zelinda was a beautiful, devoted and supportive Navy wife during her husband’s 22 year military career, raising their two children at home during the times of his deployments at sea.
Zelinda also had an unquenchable thirst for exploration and a passion for traveling, which she passed on to her children. She and Rogelio traversed the globe with an adventurous spirit, leaving a trail of cherished memories and lifelong friendships.
Her legacy of strength, wisdom, and joy will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Rogelio, her daughters, Redna and Ralna, her grandchildren, Jacob and Brandon, and a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 12:00 pm. A celebration of Zelinda’s life will follow.
Rest in peace, Mom. Your journey continues in our hearts, and you will be forever loved.
