Mark was born in Hsinchu, Taiwan on April 7, 1965. He attended college at National Chiao Tung University for Mechanical Engineering and later moved to the United States for his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He went on to obtain Masters in Computer Science at Oakland University. Mark and his wife and two kids moved to San Diego in 2000, where he began his 9 year career with Nokia. He went on to work for Microsoft, Panasonic, and Qualcomm. During this time, Mark would meet some of his closest friends who would go on to become his hiking besties, future coworkers, and foodie friends.
Mark held many titles in his life but his favorite role was being a father. He loved spending time with his children, Ryan and Maggie. He was always there for them, whether he was helping them prepare for a job interview or scouring Qualcomm’s for sale page for Taylor Swift concert tickets. As many close to Mark can corroborate, Mark became an avid USC football fan when his children began their college careers there. One of the highlights he had as a USC football fan was going to the 2017 Rose Bowl game with Ryan to watch the USC Trojans defeat the Penn State Lions.
Mark was also passionate about giving back. He was a dedicated member of Hsi Fang Temple’s San Diego Buddhist Association, and served as the Secretary of the board previously. From leading park clean-ups to helping set up for temple events, Mark positively impacted our community, and he will be truly missed.
Mark is survived by his wife Hsuan Hsuan (57), and his children Ryan (28) and Maggie (26). He is also survived by his younger brother Albert (52), who resides in New York, and parents, who currently reside in Taipei. Mark will be missed by all who knew him, and will forever be remembered for his genuine heart, patient temperament, and love for USC football. Fight on! ✌
A visitation for Mark will be held Friday, June 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
