Wayne graduated from Temple High School in 1935. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army and was discharged on March 31, 1964 after being stationed in France.
Wayne graduated from San Diego State University in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in science. He worked as a civilian for the U.S. Navy as a Systems Analyst until retirement.
In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling and was an avid gardener. He was baptized on October 13, 1996 at College Avenue Baptist Church and later attended Del Cerro Baptist Church.
He is survived by siblings, Edna Rae Spencer, Linda Sue Asby, Patsy Cox, Joyce Shurtleff, Winston Randall Brinlee, Jerry Brinlee and Lowell Gene Brinlee as well as many nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Bertha and his brother Benjamin McClure.
He passed away the morning of May 3rd in his home after a courageous battle with squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. After 8 months of immunotherapy and 9 days of radiation he opted to discontinue treatment and he elected to have Hospice care in his home.
We are abiding by his wishes, which included no funeral or service of any kind. He will be laid to rest at El Camino Memorial, 5600 Sorrento Valley Rd., San Diego, CA 92121.
A Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled on Sunday May 21st at 1:00 p.m. Family and Friends are welcome to attend. We will serve some of his favorite foods and we ask everyone to wear some shade of blue, which was his favorite color. If you attend, be prepared to share a memory or story. If you are not able to attend, feel free to pass along your memories and stories and they will be shared with those gathered.
