"Ron" unexpectedly departed this earthen vessel on January 3, 2013 at Paradise Valley Hospital. Ron was born December 9, 1949 in Birmingham, Alabama to Robert and Doris Hunter, the second of seven children. Ron was raised in San Diego, California, arriving here at the age of 4; he graduated from Lincoln High School; obtained his BS in electrical engineering from San Diego State University, before later returning to work there for more than 30 years in the School of Engineering. In the interim, Ron met and married Velma "Bunny" Limuel, the love of his life, and they produced 2 beautiful children, Byron and Roni; Bunny preceded Ron in death on August 27, 2005.
Ron was dedicated to his work at SDSU; he poured himself into his job with an ethic inherited from his parents; but it was truly a labor of love; he found great satisfaction helping students with their projects and others in the campus community with any request they might have of him, or want that needed to be filled; always with a ready smile and a kind spirit; he was dependable and loyal; if Ron said he was going to do something, you could count on him to get it done.
After surviving a near catastrophic motor vehicle accident in 2000, Ron emerged from a lengthy and arduous rehabilitation a changed person, literally and figuratively; he remained active, daring and adventurous, as well as reclusive, but the new Ron was far more verbally engaging, never hesitating to tell you what he was really thinking; Ron loved his family unconditionally and always provided for them; we will forever miss him greeting us with his standard salutation, "What-up Homie?"
Ron is survived by his children Byron Hunter and Roni (Tavius) Swain; grandchildren Shai-Ray, Tavius Jr, Taviyana, Dejah and Rashay; parents Robert and Doris Hunter; siblings Barbara Glover, Cynthia Nicholas, Alvin (Raelene) Hunter, Roderick Hunter, Rita Hunter and Lynne (Maurice) Davis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Ron's name.
