Robert Craig Stone Wight

Robert (“not Bob”) C.S. Wight passed away quietly at home in Point Loma, CA, with his wife Nancy, son Robert II (“R-2”), and his 3 dogs, Lone-Star, Darwin and Bones, by his side. Robert greatly appreciated all the extraordinary care provided by his physicians, nurses, palliative and hospice care staff.

Robert was born in San Antonio, Texas to Carroll (“Bud”) Wight, USAF,Ret. and Dorothy Root, and travelled widely with his family as his father was transferred in the military. He graduated from Radford high School in Honolulu, Hawaii. He served his Country during the Vietnam War as an Army Signal Analyst. Robert received his Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University and his Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the University of Colorado.

After 30 years as an architect with a wide variety of projects, he pursued his dream of also being a lawyer. Robert graduated from California Western School of Law in 2007 and was admitted to the Bar in 2008. His particular sense of humor was demonstrated by leaving an application for medical school in the printer for his wife (a physician) to find the morning after he passed the Bar exam!

Robert was a sailor, a power-boater, a pilot and an off-road adventurer in his Jeep “Tigger”. He taught his city wife to appreciate the art of 4-wheel driving up mountains and through deserts so well that he rarely got to drive after that! With his father, Bud Wight, a former fighter pilot, Robert built and flew a Thorp T-18 aircraft, and passed on his extensive knowledge and love of mechanics to his son, Robert II (“R-2”).

Robert was a proud member and past president of the Point Loma Chapter of Rotary International and life member of the South Western Yacht Club. He was a great husband, a wonderful father, and a kind, giving friend with a sharp wit and ready laugh. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy (Probst) Wight, his son Robert C.S. Wight II (“R-2”), his mother Dorothy Wight of San Diego, his brother James Wight of Appleton Wisconsin, and his sister Carol Zurna of Parker Arizona.

An informal celebration of Robert’s life and wit will be had at his home on Tuesday October 28, 2014, from 5 to 8 pm. A brief military ceremony will be held promptly at 12:30 pm Wednesday October 29, 2014 at Miramar National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be given to the Point Loma Rotary Club Endowment Fund, Inc. (www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/rotary-foundation) or the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition (www.breastfeeding.org).
