Phyllis Sanfilippo, 71, passed away December 07, 2020 in San Diego,
California.
Phyllis was born July 2, 1949 in Minnesota, to Herman A. and Irene C.
(Nerada) Terhaar. She would be the first of eleven children. Shortly
thereafter, the family of 3 moved to San Diego.
Phyllis was married to Lawrence (Larry) Sanfilippo on February 15, 1975
in San Diego. They enjoyed a fulfilled life together. A special part of
their lives was raising Boxer dogs over the years. They enjoyed boating,
family gatherings, and working in their yard and garden. In their
retirement years, Phyllis and Larry loved to travel in their motorhome
to various locations throughout the United States.
Ever since her younger years, Phyllis had quite a love for sewing. She
was an avid quilter and enjoyed quilting for family and friends. Of
course, she absolutely enjoyed the shopping involved with finding the
right fabric for her next project. Over the years Phyllis sewed
pillowcases which she donated to the organization formerly Conkerr
Cancer, now named Ryans Case For Smiles. The pillowcases are made
in San Diego and distributed to Camp Pendleton Hospital, Balboa
Hospital, and local cancer camps, with excess pillowcases sent to the
Phoenix Chapter.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Larry Sanfilippo and her
parents. Phyllis is survived by her 10 younger siblings, Laurie (Tom)
Baldwin, David (Rita) Terhaar, Marlene (Steve) Nelson, Virginia (Kerry)
Smith, Carmel (Jack) Tommins, Veronica (Jack) Jacobs, Rosanne
(Domenic) D ’Alessio, Peter Terhaar, Philip (Susan) Terhaar, and
Tommy Terhaar, along with 27 nieces and nephews, 37 great nieces
and nephews, and 3 great great nieces and nephews.
Phyllis is also survived by her stepdaughter Kristina DeVico and
2 stepgrandsons, Joseph Adrian and Joseph Enzo.
After a brief illness, Phyllis passed away very peacefully at her home
from cancer. Her last few months were joy-filled with visits from family
and friends. With family care, she still had the energy to visit, play
cards, enjoy her koi pond, garden, take car trips around town, and even
a stop at the fabric store.
We will always remember her big smile and wit.
A Memorial Service in Remembrance of Phyllis will be held Tuesday,
April 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., Chapel of the Bells.
Along with her family, Phyllis was thankful to have in home care and
