The son of Charles Barry and Lottie Brown Bazemore, Paul was born on May 6, 1936 in Waycross, Georgia. He grew up in Perry, Georgia and upon graduating from Perry High School, enlisted in the Airforce. Paul attended Med Field Service School at Ft Sam in Houston, TX between September of 1954 – January of 1955 and was stationed at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. In December of 1957, Paul was honorably discharged and released from Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. He was an Airforce reservist until 1962.
Paul’s civilian career led him to work for the County of San Diego in various roles until his retirement. He enjoyed spending the majority of his life as a San Diego resident, loved the idyllic climate and city attractions. He enjoyed traveling and cruising with his dear friend Betty Nelson and was a longtime supporter of both the San Diego Zoo and Sea World San Diego.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters; Ruby Louise Heil and Hazel Brown Marshall. He is survived by his nephews; Major James Heil, USAF, Ret. (Jan) and Steve Marshall (Joyia), nieces; Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Heil, USA, Ret. and Barbara Heil (Craig Johnson).
A military service honoring the life of Paul will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 21st at 1:30 PM.
