Otto Williamson of Santee died peacefully at his home Friday morning July 31st, 2020, with his daughters and granddaughters by his side, he was 87. Otto was born and raised in Mullins, South Carolina on July 26, 1933. He was the youngest son of David and Eva Williamson. He graduated from Mullins H.S., Class of 1950 and in March of 1951 he convinced his parents to sign an age waiver and he joined the United States Marine Corps where with honor and distinction he served our country for 24 years, including several tours of duty in Vietnam and retiring on September 30th, 1975 at the rank of 1st Sergeant. In 1966 while on active duty at MCRD, San Diego he met and married the love of his life, Elaine, and they shared 47 years together.
While in the Marine Corps he was awarded the following commendations, The National Defense Medal w/ 2 stars, Good Conduct Medal w/7 stars, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 star, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 1 Bar (1960), Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm & Frame, Navy Occupation Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal w/ Combat V. He also completed many military training programs such as Sea School, Ranger School, Drill Instructor School, NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) School, and Recruiter School.
After retiring from the Marine Corps and deciding to stay in Santee, he began his career with the Grossmont Union High School District, specifically Santana High School, home of The Sultans, in 1976, first as a night custodian, and when a daytime position became available he quickly and more than happily threw his hat in the running so that he would have more time to spend with his wife and growing daughters. He retired his rake and picker in June of 1998 as the Lead Groundskeeper.
Otto enjoyed fishing with his best buddy and son-in-law John, spending time with his daughters, granddaughters and sons-in-law, and he especially enjoyed having his nephew Terry and his wife Dawn retire to the San Diego area and give him the opportunity to be an active part of their family activities. He also enjoyed being able to visit with his adult nieces and nephews when they would come from the Carolinas to California to visit.
Otto is survived by his three daughters: Dolly Boyer of Marion, SC, Eva, with her husband John Farr, of Santee, CA, & Brenda, with her husband Chad Curry also of Santee, CA, a grandson; John David Flora, & his wife D’ana, of Conway, SC, three granddaughters Christine Farr, Brittney Pinkey, & husband Mark, and Courtney Fidler, all of Santee, CA. and a great-granddaughter; Savannah Flora of Conway, SC.
Otto was preceded in death by his wife Elaine (2/17/2013), Father-David, Mother-Eva, 4 brothers: Clio, Calbra, Carlisle, Hiawatha, and his baby sister Mary-Elizabeth
Services are scheduled for Friday August 14th, 2020 @ 1:00 PM at El Camino Memorial Park and Cemetery, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121
