Nancy grew up in a loving home on Chestnut Street with her parents Henry and Kate, sisters Joan, Pam and brothers Bill and Bob. She loved sharing memories of her family including her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
When her beloved father passed away Nancy left high school to help her mother support the family. She worked in a shoe factory making children’s shoes. Nancy said that no matter what, her mom would always make sure the family had clean clothes to wear and food to eat. There was always room for more people at the table. She often said that her mother was an amazing and strong woman. The love and generosity of family and the neighborhood helped them through difficult times.
While attending her cousin Scott’s graduation she met her future husband Richard Martel. They were married July 17,1955 at St. Joseph’s Church. Together they started their adventure while Richard was serving in the Air Force. Although they lived in many locations in the country coming back to Lynn Massachusetts and family was always home to Nancy. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Richard and Nancy settled in San Diego then on to Temecula, California. They enjoyed going on cruises including a special cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversary in Fiji. Nancy loved her home and took pride in decorating it and caring for her flower garden. Most of all Nancy loved her family beyond measure.
Nancy was always selfless, always giving; she had a loving touch and a caring heart. She took an interest in and cared about all the people she knew. She would support her loved ones with unconditional love and joy. She celebrated her children and grandchildren, always their loving advocate. She was larger than life! She didn’t have to say much for you to know that you were loved.
Cheryl, Wayne and Bill were blessed to have had the most wonderful mother ever. Joy, happiness, smiles, Nancy was love, with the special little wink of her eye and a “hello kid how ya doin?”!
She will be greatly missed.
