4/28/22 – 12/28/18
Mary was born on April 28th, 1922 to Leonard and Pearl Raverty in Fairmont, Minnesota. She was one of four daughters.
Mary joined the U.S. Navy Nurse Corp and served during both World War II and Korea. She is registered at the Women in Military Service Memorial in Washington D.C., which she was thrilled to visit in September 2018 as a guest of Honor Flight San Diego. Mary met her husband, Rodney, in the Naval Hospital in San Francisco during the Korean conflict, where she served as a Navy nurse (he was her patient). They fell in love and were married on June 26th 1954. Together they raised seven children in the Clairemont suburb of San Diego
Mary was a homemaker extraordinaire; always there for her children, and their numerous neighborhood friends, and was well known for her baking skills, especially her cookies. Her schedule kept her busy yet she always found time to volunteer; Ala-teen, Meals on Wheels, and the San Diego Blood Bank, to name a few. Mary was very devout and was a founding member and engaged parishioner of Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church until her death. She was very proud of her and Rod’s service to our Nation and flew the American flag and POW/MIA flag daily in recognition of those left behind.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Rod, her parents, as well as her three sisters, Marvis, Pat and Sheila. She leaves behind her children; Mary Hand (Joe), Suzanne Cortez (Bill), Chris Jones, John Jones (Veronica), Jim Jones (Barb), Laura Roach (Will), Patti Jones, and daughter-in-law Anna Jones. She also leaves behind her 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.
