Larry was born on May 28, 1934, in Helsinki Finland to parents Sven and Lyyli Stenman. After emigrating to the United States in 1956, Larry went on to become a four-time Emmy award winning cameraman for ABC Sports and Entertainment, earning two of his four Emmys in his coverage of the 1976 Summer Olympic Games in Montreal Canada and the Academy Awards show in Los Angeles, CA. Larry was also an avid golfer and was one of the first cameraman to cover professional golf with a handheld camera on his shoulder weighing over 75 pounds and was the only camera operator that Gary Player would allow to shoot him during a PGA or USGA event.
Larry leaves behind his wife Diane of 65 years, his children Denise and Eric, son in-law Michael and daughter in-law Susan, along with his sisters Ranja and Tarja, and grandchildren Taylor, Ryan, Nicholas, Andrew, Derek, and great grandson Julian.
Services will be held at St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church in San Diego, California on Monday, August 28, 2023, as follows:
