Kenneth R. Harvey

Kenneth R. Harvey “Ken/Kenny,” passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on September 2, 2020. Ken was born in Pawtucket, R.I. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. R. Harvey and Alice Hall Harvey, brothers Norman and John, and sister Barbara.

After graduating from high school, Ken married his sweetheart Ruth (Workman) “Ruthie” on January 26, 1952. Having joined the U.S. Air Force, Ken moved with his new bride to Presque Isle, Maine where he served in the 49th Fighter Intercept Squadron making many fond memories and lifelong friends. Ken and Ruth moved to San Diego, CA in 1955 where they bought their first home in Pacific Beach and raised three daughters. Ken worked as an Aircraft Mechanic/Inspector at North Island Naval Air Station before retiring in 1990. Ken was an avid sportsman, both as a spectator and participant, playing softball and ping pong for many years on senior men’s teams. Ken and Ruth were very involved in their church and sang in choirs for over 50 years. They enjoyed traveling with the choir to perform in Russia and Sweden, and also cherished their trips to the U.K. visiting family and the birthplaces of their parents in Scotland and England.

Ken leaves behind three daughters, Nancy Rein (Doug), Karen Lennon (Bob) and Susan Crowers (Rich). “Papa” will be dearly missed by his six grandchildren, Lauren Anglin (Kevin), Alex Sklueff, Julia and Andrew Rein, and Allison and Emma Crowers. His daughters and grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed many years of fun and laughter with them. Ken was well known for his “Donald Duck” impersonations and was always quick with a joke or anecdote to make everyone laugh. Ken will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and family and dear friends.

Ken was married to the love of his life, Ruthie for 68 years and she was by his side as he left the earth to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Theirs was a marriage to be admired. As a Korean War Veteran, Ken will be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
