April 2, 1940 - January 9, 2016 John Lawrence Newell passed away January 9, 2016. He was born April 2, 1940 in Los Angeles and resided there continuously for the past 75 years. John graduated from Loyola High School (Los Angeles) in 1958 and the University of California, Berkeley in 1962. John is survived by his older brother, Pat, his sister-in-law, Susan, and four loving nieces and nephews and their eight children. For many years, John had been principally engaged in his own investment activities. He also had an interest in sports, including an avid interest in the breeding and racing of thoroughbred race horses. A memorial service honoring John will be held on January 25 at 9 am in the chapel of the Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, 6309 El Apajo Rd, Rancho Santa Fe, CA, 92067. This will be immediately followed by a service at the gravesite at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121.
