Jim had what I would describe as a charismatic personality with an enthusiastic sense of humor. He was liked by everybody that knew him and he made them feel as if they were his best friend.

I knew Jim from September of 1960 when he was my dorm roommate at San Diego State. I was new to both San Diego and California. I knew nobody and Jim knew everybody. That made me the luckiest new San Diego State student.

Within a year of knowing Jim, he met Norma. So even though Jim continued to make me feel as if I were his best friend, it was obvious to me that at most I could be was his second-best friend

Jim and Norma are an example of what every parent should be. Every one of the children came first, as did son in laws, their daughter in Iaw, and every grandchild.

In the earlier years when I would be in San Diego after finishing college, they would host me when I needed a place to stay, and later they were always available to start where we had left off from the last time we were together. And over the many years that have past, I had many more opportunities to be with him. He never changed; he was always Mr. Charismatic.

I cannot forget the first time our sons were together. My son was over two, David was one at the most, but David was the biggest. That reflects how I feel about Jim compared to me. He was always the “biggest,” not only in height.

My life has been enriched with his and Norma’s friendship, and I consider myself lucky to have known Jim for so many years.



I've known "Sib" my whole life.....From OB Elementary, Dana Jr. HIgh, and PLHS....Growing up in OB... Me on Longbranch and the Sibbets on Guizot....Jim was always a class guy and one of the funniest persons I've known in my lifetime...This is sad news and at a time when we're all in our 80's its heartbreaking to see old friends pass...But i'll remember all the good times (especially riding around in that old Studebaker)....We had a pretty good football team in 56' (until we played SD High at Balboa stadium) and Jim was always the hardest worker on that team....So it's adios old friend until we meet again....R.I.P......steve

Norma and Family,

I remember Jim from years ago always cracking a joke with a smile on his face. What a wonderful man and friend to my father, Don.  So many years of friendship and fun together. I hope the good memories and support of your family help to ease the pain of this loss. My deepest condolences go out to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Some of our best childhood memories are when we were all together at our home or at the Sibbets and the Dimich's. All of us kids running around or swimming and the adults telling stories and laughing.  His wonderful memories will be in our hearts forever.
