James Mallon, DDS, age 84, Alpine, CA, passed away at home Tuesday, January 27, after a long, courageous battle against mesothelioma. Jim is survived by his wife, Pat, and children Susan, Jeffrey, Patrick (Beth) and Stephen; grandchildren Patrick, Thomas, Jeffrey, and Adrienne Mallon, and stepchildren Jane Koppa, Chriss Hart (John), Julie Bautista (Wayne), and step-grandchildren Ashley Hart Snyder, Daniel, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Christopher Bautista. Known as caring and a gentleman, he also leaves many loving cousins and friends. Jim was born in Fargo, North Dakota, to Edmund and Ethel, and was raised in Little Falls, MN. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School, then served proudly in the Navy. Jim practiced dentistry in Pacific Beach, CA, for 35 years and was active in professional organizations and community activities, primarily Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many other outdoor sports. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Brigid’s Parish, 4735 Cass Street, San Diego, CA. Interment ceremony will be held at an undetermined date at Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Mesothelioma Foundation or the American Heart Association.
