He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Peggy Kollars. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Hilary and Rose Mary Kollars, and by his brother and best friend Timothy Kollars.
Jim was born in Chicago and his family moved to La Mesa, California when Jim was six months old. The family lived in their La Mesa home for the duration of his parents’ lives. Jim graduated from Helix High School and from San Diego State University with a degree in Mathematics. Jim worked as a Numerical Control Engineer at General Dynamics for many years, programming parts for airliners and space shuttles.
Jim obtained his single engine pilot license in his early 20s and loved to fly. His many flights included a long-distance trip to Chicago with his wife Peggy. Jim also enjoyed playing tennis, flying radio control airplanes and helicopters, gaming, roller coasters, golf, growing water lilies, and woodworking. He also loved to dance with Peggy and their line dancing friends and loved the local country band Calico Ridge. Jim loved German Shepherds and over the years he and Peggy enjoyed training and playing with their dogs Ernie, Xita, Xandra, Reba, Rocky and Winnie. He is greatly missed by his wife, extended family and friends.
A small private funeral service and reception is scheduled for Monday, May 20 at 10:00am at El Camino Memorial. Family and Jim’s close friends are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. Address: 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121.
