Georgia was born November 4th 1923, in San Diego, CA. to Violet (McKay) and George Serrano. The oldest of 15 children Georgia grew up in Old Town San Diego, where the Serrano Family had lived for generations dating back to the 1780s. Georgia often shared fond memories of her childhood home on Congress St. in Old Town and her time spent on her family dairy farms. She attended Point Loma High School and would go on to take courses at San Diego State University until WWII began. She had a deep love for education and would often share with her children and grandchildren how much she valued her time in school.
In 1949, Georgia married Lennard Drummond and would enjoy 59 years of marriage together. The two resided in Pt. Loma where she would continue to live until her passing. Their family grew to have four children. Throughout that time she also traveled on many occasions and shared stories of some of her favorite places such as Puerto Rico. Anyone that knew Georgia would say that perhaps her proudest title would be ‘Grammy.’ She spent much of her years after raising her children enjoying her 8 grandchildren. She could be found on many sport sidelines, dance recitals, graduations cheering them on. Most recently doing the same for the 8 Great-grandchildren she leaves behind.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Lennard; her daughter, Georgine; parents, George and Violet Serrano; and many brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Ted Drummond; daughters Becky Tallarida (Michael), Tamara Chagas (Richard); daughter-in-law Melanie Sardina eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Rosary/Memorial Mass will be held at Mission San Diego de Alcala Thursday, February 3rd at 10:30am.
